Common questions about my dog communication:
What am I doing when I am dog communicating ?
It is quite simple. I understand what dogs are feeling and communicate with them by reading and using their own natural language and inborn customs. Communicating the correct type of “energy” is also important in balancing the dog when using this technique. There is no “hocus pocus” involved. Beware of someone claiming to be a “dog whisperer” who can not explain exactly what they are doing and why it works.
How did I learn?
Formally by studying canine behavior, body language, and watching the interactions of dogs. But mostly by paying attention since I was a child and interacting with thousands of dogs of various temperaments in different situations through my work as a K9 handler & trainer, where I had to handle and address many distressed, fearful, and aggressive dogs, and through my many years of training and modifying the behavior of very difficult dogs.
What does dog communication have to do with dog training?
Dog communicating does not involve formal training, leashes, and all those things but I use it to establish a relationship with the dog during the process of training. When the dog and I can communicate, the process of training obviously goes much smoother. I do not have to rely on bribery with treats or using intimidation to “muscle” my way through training a difficult dog. I can see when the dog is confused, needs a break, understands, etc. It makes for a more relaxed training environment when I can react to what they are trying to tell me. It gives them no reason to fear me. For example, I can read what two dogs are telling each other when dealing with dog on dog aggression cases. Or, I can see what type of miscommunication between a dog and owner that is causing a particular problem. This helps me create a specific plan to help each individual case.
Private Lessons – An education in advanced training
Private lessons are a great way to strengthen your bond and gain control over your furry buddy. These one on one lessons are designed to help you understand, communicate to, and train your dog yourself under my direct supervision. You will be amazed at how much you will learn! Training your dog yourself is a far different experience than having your dog trained by me in the board & train program. When I train your dog myself, I must only teach you how to be a good dog handler. These private lesson programs will teach you to be your dog’s handler and teacher – a far more rewarding experience.
Protection with a trained K9 is one of the best threat deterrents available. The reason I say that is due to the fact that NO bad guy wants to be bitten by a dog, regardless of how high on drugs or how determined they are. Statistics have proven this time and again, be it by questioning the arrested, by my time working a K9 on the street or the reactions of insurgents in Afghanistan & Iraq. It’s a universal truth! We train the properly socialized, obedience trained, in control K9s that have what it takes to protect their family or individual handler/owner. The protection program will be tailored to your specific needs & desires as well as what we determine best fits your situation. I have the knowledge, experience, & time in the field to help you decide what best route to take with either a home defender or an out & about companion! We base our training on my experience with both working a police K9 as well as my exposure to the Department of Defense methods outlined per AR 190-12 (AR 190-12 is the U.S. Govt. standard that ALL military & govt. K9s are held to).
